Reset?

    Is there a way to reset whole computer to return it factory settings?
    Will I loose some programs?
    I am mostly worried about bellsouth dsl thing
    System restore?

    What media did you get with the PC? Do you have recovery CD's?

    no cds just a regular XP

    Returning a computer to "factory settings" does just that. It looks like it did when you brought it home. That means any programs you installed or any hardware or software you configured since then will be gone. Unless your computer came with your DSL already configured (not likely), you would have to re-configure it.

    You could erase the drive and re-install XP, but that would mean the loss of all your data and programs. Any software that was installed when the machine was new will be gone (though you should have gotten recovery CD's for those programs, too).

    That would be about as fresh a slate as you could want.

    They are apparently having big problems with Bellsouth Dsl right now.Will probably get fixed fairly quick though.If that is what is making you think about a total reinstall I would wait and see what happens.
