When booting up I hear static on the speakers. Then all is quiet - can't hear the Windows opening sound.
Checking "Sound, video and game controller properties" says that no conflicts and everything OK. I can try sample sounds and if I increase volume control all the way on the speaker itself I can hear the sound very faintly.
Checking "System Devices, System Speaker" says that there are no conflicts and device working properly.
    What should I do now?

sounds like it might be the speakers or the cord.

Try plugging in a pair of headphones directly into the sound card and see what happens.

try plugging it in again, also you could try to clean your sound card and getting the dust out of the plugs,

Have you got the most uptodate sound card drivers?

Thanks. The problem was solved by cleaning the plugs. How simple!!
