I am running outlook express 5 and I can receive attachements, but I am not able to open them. When I try I get this error:
This program does not have a file associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking View and then Folder Options.
I understand how to get into Folder Options, but can't figure out how to associate it in my email to get the attachments open.
Help!! :(

What is the full file name?

What that means is that the file type does not have a way to open because the required SW to open it is not installed.

For example, if it is an MOV file, you'll need quicktime installed to open it. If it is a DAT file, the sender's email client (or yours) is messed up. I think.

I clicked properties on the attachment and it is an .eml file. It has happened with most of my attachments and not just from one person. Is that how I check to see what kind of file it is or is there another way?

I am updating my Quicktime as I write this. I think it is going to take a while. If that solves it I will write back that it works.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Rollin' Rog. I guess I need be reinstalling OE as what you suggested, unfortunately, didn't work. I will try that and get back.
I appreciate everyone's help.

I reinstalled OE and that solved my attachment problem. Thanks loads.
Now if I could figure out why I can't send pictures, that aren't attachments, like stationary that is animated. I thought maybe reinstalling would help that, but it didn't.
Thanks for fixing my attachment problem, it is much appreciated to all that helped.:D

Glad to hear it kcowz. As I'm not even an Outlook user, I did a little research to see what precedents there were for the problem in user groups forums. There were many and no one was able to fix it by doing the Folder Options edit, but I thought I'd suggest it because it seemed the logical first step. Everyone else had to reinstall Outlook too.

Try a separate post for the second problem, you'll probably snag someone more knowledgeable about Outlook, I'm sure there must be a way to do what you want.
