    Good morning all.

I have a nagging problem I can't seem to resolve.
When I try to open a jpg file,, IE comes up.. however
the file shows up as a small box with an X in it in
the upper left hand corner of Internet Explorer. I
have gone into folders and file types and here is the
line for the "open " action: c:\programs\internet explorer\
iexplore.exe . I have also designated Use DDE as such:
    DDE Message: "file:%1",,-1,,,
    Application: IExplore
    Topic: WW_OpenURL

    What am I missing?

I think you are missing a separate jpeg association for files on the hard drive. That one appears to be for internet (url) based ones.

There is an "all in one" jpeg patch which I believe will install the correct associations which you can download and double click on to install (available courtesy of ONEHUMAN):

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/one.human/reg/JPE_JPEG_JPG_IE_fix.reg

Or you can download the image.cab file available below, open and double click each individual jpeg.reg file:
