Possible solutions:

If you run WM Player and use it to open a file with the same extension as those you're accessing from the net, WM Player should say something along the lines of "Windows Media Player is not currently set as the default program for movie files. Do you want it to be?".
If it asks you this question, say "yes".

If that doesn't appear, then openQuickTime, go to Edit, Preferences, QuickTime Preferences. In the QuickTimne settings box, use the drop down and select File Type Associations and take the checkmark out of the "Windows File Types" box.
Next open Windows Media Player. Go to Tools, Options, Formats and put checks in all of the 'video file' boxes.
This should do the same job.

Finally, a more drastic option would be to uninstall QuickTime, but don't do this yet as other people may have better suggestions.
