Could someone tell me how to tell if I have a video card? I looked inside, but I didn't see anything plugged in but a modem and a sound card. I have belarc advisor program that tells me everything that is in my pc. But I'm not seeing a video card. It says under display standard PCI grafics adaptor (VGA). Hereis the list. Somehow I thought we had a cirrus logic 7548 pci (display adaptor). When I go in and install this then it will give me 256 color option like I had before I top loaded windows back on my system. But when I download drivers for it and it promts to restart the pc freezes. So I'm thinking I may not have cirrus logic.
Could someone Please help? I've been trying to fix since Saturday.

Thanks, 12volt

Hi, Sometimes the Belarc Advisor will not show what is inside, but what is configured,,,,,without proper drivers, only the Standard Graphics is detected by belarc....until drivers are installed for the actual device you have, it will not show with that tool. You must find out if the monitor plugs to an added in card or to an onboard chip....the card is easy enough to spot, its in the stack of PCI cards....look inside at it, take out with computer shut down and MONITOR shut off....to see what it is...most have a make and model label. Post what you can find.
If monitor plugs to the row of ports like keyboard, mouse, etc its an onboard chip, probably AGP type, but we need the chip info....look at the chips, see any that say graphics, video, etc? Might be: SiS, Intel, Nvidia, to name only a few.

Belarc won't detect or list a video adapter if the driver isn't installed. That's why you get standard VGA. If you have a separate video card the monitor cable will be attached to it. If you have onboard video, the monitor cable will be attached to the motherboard.

Hi, you can also go here and have IBM try and detect the model you have: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-49QTT6.html

I was able to find a lot about your model system, IBM PC 330 GL 627 550U, but it says it had NT 4.0, there probably is a download, but having them detect your system might be easier!

Hey, does this remotely resemble your pc?? It shows nada about exactly what video device it may have come with!

Hi, managed to find this: S3 video, driver for win 98, etc: lucky you. http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/JBA...ily=&doctype=Downloadable+files&subtype=Video
FIRST---make sure you have an S3 Trio 3D chip inside!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to create a folder somewhere on C: like C:\Viddrv, extract the files to that folder when you click on the download after it finishes....look in that folder for a Readme file, or as it says, it may have instructions to follow. May have a Setup.exe to start the installation for you.

Usually, you do this:

, Right click desktop empty space....select Properties.....Settings..Advanced......Adapter> Change, now the tricky part.....Show all hardware......find S3 Trio 3D or click "Have Disk" point to the folder you extracted files of driver TO on hard drive, like C:\Viddrv and install.

Thank you so much. I was able to find what we needed from the info you sent. We have worked for days trying to get straightened out. Nothing was working. All of you guys are a God send. We would have never been able to fix it without you guys. It is great to have some where to turn to get help. Again, Thanks!

Hey, good going....when you get the video working in a decent way, you may want to open the Display Properties again, and set the monitor Refresh rate to "Default"....you could of course look up the exact setting in MHGZ from monitor specs....the default or Optimal setting usually works....70HZ is usually OK, too. Sometimes they show "UNKNOWN" this you do not want...
You can also set the color bit-depth, and resolution to make the screen display more of desktop, web pages, etc....you do all this using the same method> Right click empty spot desktop, etc.
You can also change font size between Large and Small.
800x600 resolution with Large Fonts pleases most people using win98se. I use a bit higher, since most sites are optimized for it now, and my video card etc supports it.
Glad to help. That IBM site works OK if you hit enough keys....
