If you're running Windows 95, 98, or Millennium, download and run the Lavasoft Winsock fix

It will restore your internet connectivity.

If this is Win 2000 or XP, download and run this LSP Winsock-Fix

It repairs possible registry damage to the Winsock Stack.
Just run it so it reads the list of LSP modules from the Windows registry and verify that each module is present.

Then hit "Finish" and let it automatically correct the misnumbered entries

    All:

I am totally stoked and thankful for the help I rec'd in this forum, especially bandit429 for all of his tips and freecho for his "fan" suggestion. TonyKlein and SteamWiz...thanks too.
Although it prob. helped to run all of those tests...ScanDisk, Defrag., Spybot S&D, reinstalled Windows 98, downloaded latest versions of IE and OE...it was the fan and heat sink that needed replacing. My processor was overheating and caused all of the errors. Now I've been on-line for 4 hours+ and no errors.....SWEEEEET!:D
But kudos to all....I am outta here!!

WOW, I actually got it right??????
That's crazy. You guys just made my day. Maybe I'm not that computer illiterate as I thought. But I must admit, all the other advice is all Greek to me. But I'm kinda glad I put my input in.

o i forgot, and I hope this isn't the case, but since you've been running overheated for what seems to me a very long time, permanent damage to other hardware can result. (ex. your cpu).

    Freecho ,

I was thinking that too....hopefully that's not the case. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I did also pay for a tune-up and they did a bunch of other tests at the store I brought the tower to. Worth the $100 after a month of aggravation.

    Good day all....
