Ok, I'm now reaaaaaaaaally frustrated...I have a bunch of Napster files that are sitting in a nice little folder under " downloads..so far so good...I open up Media PLayer and have gone thru all the "search" topics to see how to move this folder into the Media Library so I can then make a new PLaylist..I cant for the life of me figure out how to do this!! Could someone please give me the "dummies" version!!!!!!! Thanks so much..you guys and gals out there are great!!l

alrighty then,,, you want the Windows Media player to locate & add to its playlist what you have in your mysic folders...correct?

on Media Player go to view/taskbar/media library...let it search your hard drive for media.

Hey Savvy, quick response but.........the files I want to add to the Media Library are just sitting in a folder completely unrealted to Media Player..in the Help section it says to go to File-Add to Library-Find File..click on it and it puts it into library..I can do that, find the file I want to add from folder originally called " downloads-Music" but then it doesnt do anything.
Is this clear??? Kinda hard to explain!!! :)

Hiya

Let me see if I'm getting this right.

You have some files that you have downloaded from Napster and to make the playlist, you'll need them in the WMP folder so that it can play them.

What WMP have you got, and also what are the extensions of the media files that you have downloaded?

What OS are you using? Have a look in c:\windows\media. That contains .wav files. Can you not copy them over to that folder?

Regards

Hi Eddie, ok I'll try to answer your questions...I have WMP version 7.00.00.1440..I'm operating WindowsME..The files are MPEG Layer 3 Audio....( is that the extension?) Right now they are sitting in My Documents-Downloads-Music....according to WMP Help I have to get them into the Media Library before I can put them into a Playlist...this is what I cannot seem to figure out how to do.....I click on Media Library-File-Add to Library-Add File then I open on the above "music" file from downloads...it asks me for a file name?? So I make one up....maybe this is the problem??what does it want? Then I click on Open and it says "file not found"....whew..is this enough info to make a diagnosis??? I feel so stupid, this should be easy, right????? Thanks for your time :)

I understand what you mean.... you are saying that you in fact did what you was supposed to do but that the media player did not for some reason find them...
My question is... did the media player actually search for them?

Okay

I don't use WMP7, but you say that they're in My Documents-Downloads-Music and you want them in Media Libary. I assume that this is the same file as the one that I found in c:\windows\media

If thats the case, open up Windows Explorer, browse to My Documents Downloads Music, and highlight them all. Now, navigate to c:\windows\media and, assuming that you still have them all highlighted in the Music folder, just drag them across into the Media Folder.

Does that work? If you're unsure of this, then copy them first using rightclick Copy, then if its in the wrong place, you can just delete them.

MPEG may not be the correct format, as this is a movie. Is it a movie of music file?

For that, just click one of the music files that you have in Music.
