I downloaded Kazaa and it's spyware put me off so I uninstalled it all. I have since downloaded Kazaalite after I read another thread in here about it being better to use. I've not installed it yet.
I cannot remove "My Search Bar" from the "Add and Remove Programs"
    I have run "Hijack this".
Can you advise me if there is anything in this log that can be removed to help?
    Thanking you in advance:

According to your log, you don't have "My Search Bar" installed

Download and run "KazaaBegone" from this link :-

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

    See if that helps

Post back to this thread and let us know.

    Thanks for oyur replies.
    I downloaded and ran KazaaBegone.
Some stuff was removed but bI went to my add and remove programs and it is still there.
I clicked on "my search bar" and tried to remove it. A page came up and a box showing:

An error has occured in the script on this page
    Line: 95
    Char:1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
    Code: 0
    URL: res://C:\PROGRA~1\MYWAY\MYBAR\1.BIN\mybar.dll/101

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
    Yes No

Whichever I click makes no difference and takes me to a completed "My Search" page to uninstall with UNINSTALL or NO-I DON'T WANT TO UNINSTALL

Every time I click on UNINSTALL the same script error comes up. If I click not to uninstall the same thing happens. I have to close the uninstall page with the X in the top right hand corner.
    Hmmmmmm?????

It's a BHO which doesn't show in your hijackthis log, and cannot be removed from add/remove programs.

Is the entry in add/remove the only sign of it on your computer ?

    Go to Tools/internet options/advanced and

    TICK .......Disable script debugging
UNTICK....Display a notification about every script error

    RUN Spybot

    Download and install SpyBot,

    http://security.kolla.de/

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

    Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

    Let us know your results

Is this folder still on the system?

    PROGRA~1\MYWAY\MYBAR\1.BIN\mybar.dll/101

    What about the mybar.dll ?

If not, then Add/remove is trying to access something that is not there.

You can remove the "orphan" entry from Add/Remove by deleting it from the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

But let Spybot do its job and check afterwards.

I'm sorry for being a little thick but can you tell me how to remove this:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

    and where from?

I have tried the other methods described but it remains in the "add and remove programs list"!

    Sorry about this.

Run regedit and navigate to that key.

If it's in Add/Remove programs you should see an entry in the left pane under the Uninstall key. Just scroll down the list, look under the "M's"

This won't remove any actual software, just the entry in Add/Remove.

If you have the folder remaining in Program Files and nothing is removing it, you will have to delete that manually.

OK I have done that and found a list of folders.
    One reads:
    My Way Speedbar Uninstall.

Do I right click on this folder and delete it or do I do something with the items listed in that folder in the right had window?
