My son phoned me from his college telling me that his computer keeps rebooting into safemode. He is running Windows 98. I told him to run scandisk. Is there any other operation he can run.
Thanks,
Lee

This is the simplest possible "quick fix":

Press and hold the ctrl key immediately when starting. A boot menu with numbered options should appear. Choose the "command prompt" option. At the c:\> prompt, enter:

scanreg /restore

(note the forward slash)

Select a started registry that predates the problem he is having.
