I cannot get IE 6 to remember my passwords...I have tried all sorts of different things, security, content, yet it will not store the passwords.

I'm using a HP pavillion with WindowsXP

I don't know if it being WinXP makes any difference, but the option to store passwords is in content in IE6 (click the autocomplete button)

I tried that...no good. I used to get a dialog box asking if I wanted Windows to remember the password for me but I've only gotten it a couple times lately and when I click on yes it still doesn't remember. I have noticed that there aren't any cookies in my temporary internet files when I clean that folder up. It doesn't ask if I want to delete the selected cookies anymore, it just deletes everything in the folder...

When you clean out your cookies, you're deleting the stored passwords. If i'm not mistaken, Windows drops a cookie with your password for that website whenever it asks if you wish Windows to remember your password.

If Windows isn't storing them, what should I do?

As a matter of fact, it's both...when check my e-mail the "save password" option is grayed out. As far as editing the registry, lordy! it would be a mess then! I know absolutely nothing about the registry and would be terrified of editing it. I guess I can live with typing in my passwords each time, it's not that big a deal. It's just that, you know, you kinda want everything to work perfectly all the time...too much to ask these days I guess. Anyway, thanks for all your help. You guys are great!
