(RESOLVED)As soon as Windows comes up, I receive a message in a grey box that says: "You are using Selective Startup for troubleshooting your system". What must I do to not use the Selective Startup?

There should be a little check box you can check to not show that again on startup.

    Welcome to TSG luvveroflife

I have never seen that message before, which Windows version are you using?

"Selective startup" is an option in the System Configuration utility (msconfig) which is enabled when individual files are unchecked in the "startup group" tab. In my Win98 experience, having selective startup enabled (as I do normally) has never produced a prompt.

To verify or change the selective startup configuration, go to start and run msconfig

If you check "normal startup" all files under the startup group will automatically be enabled. You may or may not want to enable all of them, depending on whether you are doing any troubleshooting, or trying to reduce the number of programs running at startup.

I found the following in this MS article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;NL;q245411

    Windows ME:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.

On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:

    Process Win.ini File
    Load Static VxDs
    Load Startup Group Items
    Load Environment Variables

Click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

When the computer restarts, you will get a window that says "you are using selective startup for troubleshooting".
This is a reminder that you have made the changes in step 3. Click OK.

So apparently this is a generic ME reminder.

    Greetz,

There should be a checkbox on that window that pops up. You don't have one?
