I have lost the program that allows me to send attachments (i.e. jpeg) When I send something out it changes form to a .dat file and duplicates itself to the person I am sending it to. (many times) Also when I click on an incoming attachment I get the following message: The system cannot find the file specified.

I do not know where to find a program or which one I should use for opening the files. I am using ME Outlook. I had a digital camera program installed and it wanted to take over all of the opening of all my attached files...it seemed to mess up my system so I uninstalled that digital camera program and must have deleted the other program.

Can I get out of this mess? Thanks for any help.

Go to start>settings>folder options>file types>scroll down to jpeg, click it, and see what is listed to open it.

Dont know how different ME will be. When go back to there and click edit, do you see a "set default" button? Try it.

I did not find anything that except:

a box and next to it: use DDE (and it is not checked).

There are 3 jpeg files listed: JPG JPEG JPG
under one of the JPG image I clicked Advanced and it asked me what program I wanted to open JPG. I don't think anything is highlighted...shouldn't something be? And what?
    Thanks

Well, there seems to be too big of a difference between our OS's. Let me see what I can do.

Ok, bacj to your earlier post. When asked what you want to open it with, you can choose the graphics program you want. The default is IE. So if you are unsure which programs you have that will support this, choose IE. Here is a snapshot of what yours should look like that a friend sent me. Notice that he has his associated with MGI PhotoSuite.

    Good Morning
I can not find IE in the list...mine looks like the one above. Nor can I find the one he uses. There are two buttons in the View
Reset all folders and Restroe Defaults

Should I do anything with those?
    Thanks,
    Ginny

    I also have WinME............
When you go to folder options there should be three tabs at top as shown in the pic above. The tab you are describing is the view tab. Click on the one next to it called file types......or is that not there? When you click on it, it will be a few moments while it collects information when the information appears the scroll down to see the file extensions such as jpeg jpg and so on. That is what Doyce is trying to explain.

I was just wondering if System Restore might bring my old program up. I have never used it.

    I sure appreciate your help.

If you have done nothing such as uninstall yes system restore may help you recover from this problem. How many days ago did this problem occur?

Actually since the last of November when I installed the Olympus Digital Camera program. I started getting complaints from the friends when I sent them a picture that I took. Finally, every attachment I tried to send would duplicated itself. I uninstalled the Olympus program probably the 15th of Dec. as we were going to be gone until Friday, 28 Dec.,
I knew I had to come back and face this.

The camera program is the only thing that I have uninstalled.

If I do run the System Restore where do I find it?

I also was considering uninstalling ME and reinstalling it or putting my old 98 back in. Hate to go to that trouble plus double hate to lose my files and such.

I have run the usual virus checks; defrag; etc. Everything seems clean. I wondered if a macro had been infected and I don't know what to do about that. I use McAfee Clinic.

    Ahum, long winded aren't I?
