    Hi!

Does anyone have any tips on the following....?

I installed the file-sharing program, iMesh, recently (bad choice!) and decided that I didn't want to keep it. I clicked on Start = Programs - Imesh - Uninstall, but get the following error:
    Could not open Install.log file

I then tried Add/Remove programs tool to remove this - but again, I received the same error.

Checking all files in the iMesh directory (including hidden and system files) shows no sign of the Install.log file.

    I am running Windows 98.

What can I do to rectify this problem other than delete the iMesh folder and all shortcuts (which I hear is a very bad idea :D )

    Thanks in advance

    Hiya

If you're missing the instal.log, then the best way to uninstall the program is to install it back on again, then this will add the .log back on the system. Then uninstall via AddRemove.

Seems a strange way, but 9 times out of 10 it works.

    Regards

Thx for the advice Eddie (just been reading the first couple of pages of the Adobe Premiere saga!! - you have a lot of patience - you may need it here too!!)

I did try that (but forgot to mention it in my original posting!) - unfortunately this didn't work.

I'm now pulling my hair out! lol !!

    Any further suggestions??

    Thanks

I've checked on Google etc, but can't find anything on there either...

what with the 'unable to shut down MSN Messenger -- other programs' message... i'm in a right mucking fuddle!

PS: just in case (as per above) I might have been the unlucky 1 in 10 cases where reinstall doesn't work - i've since tried a couple more times but to no avail (although i have had the fun of clearing all that spyware stuff off again!!);)

    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Patience......Well, mostly, but not at work. :p

Okay, the version that you've got: is it 2.20 beta?

If so, you may want to try installing it again, I know, and doing this:

go here and download AddAware www.lavasoftusa.com
Install and run, ensuring that Deep Registry Scan is enabled. Remove all except for any references to Web3000 or new.net. If you're unsure, copy/paste the list here.

Whilst you're there, download and install RefUpdate to get the latest updates

Also, as I may suspect some other things here, go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Thanks for getting back to me...

The version of iMesh I have installed is 3.00 (Build 123 Beta)

I reinstalled iMesh again and then ran Ad-aware (already had this program, but not the refupdate, so installed that first)
This only found 2 references to Cydoor so i cleared these.
(I have used this many times recently to clear rubbish!)

Here is what is now listed on MSINFO32:

iMesh Auto Update Startup Group C:\PROGRA~1\IMESH\CLIENT\WiseUpdt.exe /C
ScanRegistry Registry (Machine Run) c:\windows\scanregw.exe /autorun
    TaskMonitor Registry (Machine Run) c:\windows\taskmon.exe
LoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Run) Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
    POINTER Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~6\point32.exe
    CHotKey Registry (Machine Run) mk9805.exe
Tweak UI Registry (Machine Run) RUNDLL32.EXE TWEAKUI.CPL,TweakMeUp
    STARS Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\STARS.EXE
    WININSS Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\OLS\MSN\MSNSETUP\COMPNTS\WININSS.EXE
NAV Agent Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~2\NAVAPW32.EXE
    New.net Startup Registry (Machine Run) rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\NEWDOT~3.DLL,NewDotNetStartup
BMail Installation Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\iMesh\Client\FTP_back.exe
LoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Service) Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
    ScriptBlocking Registry (Machine Service) "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Script Blocking\SBServ.exe" -reg
    ---

I normally go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall new.net at this point...

    Thanks

    Okay

You have the iMesh installed on your system. Now, looking through the startup, have you uninstalled new.net via AddRemove? Also, with new.net you have to remove the entry found in the MSCONFIG for the starting up.

Lets see if that is removed fully. Go to Run and type MSCONFIG. In the startup tab, uncheck the entry for new.net, apply and restart.

    This is about new.net http://www.cexx.org/newnet.htm

If the AddRemove option fails, then you may want to ring on (626) 229-7800 or email [email protected]

Looking through the list, however, there are some references to iMesh.

    iMesh Auto Update Startup Group:
    BMail Installation

Now, lets see if this works.

Try and uninstall it, using AddRemove. If this proves successful, then go to the MSCONFIG and remove the entries for the above two entries, iMesh and BMail, apply and restart.

I have also found out about this:

    http://www.timecities.com/members/flashtrack/imeshtrojan.html

Now, to find out if you have this, go to Find Files and type in FTapp.dll

If you find that you have this, we may need to remove that as well.

If the removal of iMesh is not achieved, then I'll delve deeper.

    Regards

    Hi Eddie

Thanks for the reply and links!

Well, firstly, new.net does appear to have been removed completely - I removed this via Add/Remove programs and unchecked msconfig references. Upon reboot, references to new.net disappeared.

Some more good news is that it doesn't appear that FTapp.dll is on my system. I also checked your link out and it seems as if my comp is clear from this.

Unfortunately, this still leaves that blasted iMesh! Again, I tried to uninstall, but lo and behold, 'Could not find install.log' !
    Grrrrrrr !!

    Persistent little beast, isn't it!!!

Unless you really need the space I'd be tempted to make sure it doesnt staptup automatically (msconfig) and leave it there unless it's causing you problems.

B3gbie -- I see what you're saying - and I have contemplated this, but I'm getting to that point where it would be easier to give in - and I don't think I should! (Although it seems that i may not have much choice!)

The thing is, it mightn't necessarily have been iMesh that wouldn't uninstall on my pc - it could have been something like Links Golf that takes up acres of space on HD-space strapped pc...

With this forum's help though, it does seem like i'm getting somewhere at last!

    Thanks

    Hiya

Got a result. You're gonna love this. Tracked down an copy of the install.log

    http://members.xoom.it/fabrizio1441/Programmi/iMesh/Client/

Now, I'm assuming that if you download and place this log file inside the iMesh Program file, you can uninstall it. If there are a few folders, then not sure where it will go, but betting the Program Folder. I've checked it, no viruses.

Lets hope it works. If it does, I'll copy the log file into here for future reference

    Hi Eddie!!

See, I did say you would need patience!! haha!

Well, you probably won't believe me - but this is something I have tried already!!! Seriously! It was the only site that I could find with the install.log (on Google) and I thought what the heck - go for it! Great minds think alike and all that! When i tried, it skipped past where it normally errors, but i was still left with files and the uninstall program errored anyway!

I think the problem lies with it being Italian, though! Uninstallizione and all that jazz!!

Keep trying Eddie, I have faith in you!

(Should I put an appeal out to any users who have installed the same version as me (English) and ask them to send me their install.log? Maybe that will work??)

Thanks for your persistence in this matter... you are a star!

    Okay

Whilst I'm still looking, try this. Don't know if it'll work, but its worth a bash.

Rename it to INSTALL.LOG as I cannot upload log files.

Well, Mr Eddie5659... it seems that we may have gotten there!
I downloaded and renamed the file and ran uninstall.

The only files i have left appear to be shortcuts and the install exe file.

I have yet to perform a reboot - but i'm sure things will be fine!

You know - i was just about to post "let's give up!" - glad i waited!

If you ever come to Brighton, UK - i'll buy you a pint!
    Thankyou so much,
    Regards

    WAHAY

Loved the piccy as well :p

Took a bit of translating, but the job looks like a good 'un. I used to live in Eastbourne prior to Bradford, so I know the South Coast pretty well.

I drink Bitter, by the way. :D

    I'll get this solved
