This all began when Grisoft did not clearly communicate the 7.1 to 7.5 upgrade. It is so unfortunate that Grisoft communicates so poorly, imagine all the stressed folks out there wasting time and effort on this activity, and as it turns out, unecessarily so.
I recently had a chance to attempt install of AVG 7.5 (on behalf of all the Win95 users out there). I am pleased to report that I have it working. The email distribution from tech guy Mike on this topic was helpful and I will add it below.
Basically;
1) go to the web site per email below
2) find & download the executable file, " avg75free ,,,,, .exe " (remember the location on your system)
3) execute (run) the program which can be done by; 'start', 'run', 'browse' to find the file, and 'run'. Or use windows explorer.
4) during the install you will need some free disk space (could be in short supply on older systems)
5) during the install, use 'REPAIR', not 'INSTALL' per email note below
6) likely, if 7.1 worked, then 7.5 will work
Thats it.
Thanks for all the support.
Lets put this into the "Resolved" category.

Grisoft offers a free anti-virus for home users called AVG Free. (Businesses are required to purchase the commercial version of AVG, but it's very affordable!)
If you already have AVG installed on your computer, you may get a warning that you need to upgrade by January 15, 2007. Most people are currently using AVG version 7.1, but you are required to install the newer version, 7.5. Here is how to upgrade to the latest version of AVG Free:
1. Go to
www.free.grisoft.com
2. Click on the "AVG Anti-Virus Free" link near the top.
3. Click on the "Download free version" button near the middle.
4. Under the Windows heading, click on the link that starts with "avg75free_..."
5. Click on the "Open" or "Run" button that appears.
6. When the Setup program runs, youll have to click Next and accept the license agreement.
7. When it asks you to "Select Setup Type", choose "Repair Installation" and click Next.
