Every time I start up my operating system ie Windows 98 I get the error message: cmmpu
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

I always click close and the system seems to operate OK.

The person who loaded Windows 98 for me said this might settle down after a while.

Will this settle down or is there a major problem?

Thank-you,

CONOP:confused:

I am not exactly a genius but if you don't do something about it will stay there, if it runs fine without the file why not disable it from running at startup?

Goto 'Run' in your start menu and type 'msconfig', then click on the 'Startup' tab and search in that list for something that looks like 'run=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\cmmpu.exe' and delete it :)

You could replace it but it appears that your computer doesn't like the file, if someone else smarter than me recommends you replace it then do so :)

Good luck!

A near on instant reply by The Hawk has sorted out my problem that has had me scratching my head for ages.

Thank-you The Hawk.

I have one other problem with my system which I intend to post shortly, hope this gets sorted as well.

Kind Regards,

conop :)
