(Resolved) Windows XP trouble

Okay I ordered a Certificate of Authenticity from SuperSupplier.com for Win XP pro, but when I try to use it on my xp pro cd it does not take the key as valid. I'm not sure of what version it is. Is there more than one version of xp pro, besides the upgrade? I think my disc maybe the upgrade disc and my key is for new installation. Is there anyway to get a replacement cd from Microsoft, or should I return the key and get the full OEM version?

There are three types of xp pro to be exact and three different series of keys that are not interchangeable. There is xp pro corporate , pro retail and pro oem. You will need to explore your cd. Go to the i386 folder / system ini folder / and look for the pid #. The last three digits are what makes the difference. If you can tell me what those are i will tell you what you have.

Cool, thanks, the prob was my key was oem and my disc was retail. This mystery is solved. Thanks for all your help.
