i'm sorta new to file-sharing, but not so new i haven't begun to figure out which ones work a lot better than some other ones. so my best instincts led me to win mx pretty quickly and i downloaded it this morning.

BUT-- where the hell are my downloaded files? actually, i don't really even care WHERE they are, there is absolutely nothing evident in the toolbar for playing the damn things. and their 'help' window is "temporarily" (?) down.

great resource in terms of files available, and pretty fast on download times so far. but not a lot of use if you can't listen to them.

have i missed the nose on the end of my face? have i missed a step in setting it up? (don't think so).

i have folders in my c drive called 'my downloads', 'my shared folders', and i even took someone's advice (techguy's, i think) and created a new folder i called 'winmx downloads'. all my kazaalite and previous downloads have gone into one or more of the above no problem, and there are multiple routes for playing them.

the thing, too, about winmx, is that once a download is complete, it disappears to.... somewhere..... in a matter of minutes, although i did try double-clicking on it just before it vanished. no dice. spooky.

should i uninstall it and start over? or what?

    thanks in advance

okay, i'll answer my post if everyone else is baffled by such a duh question--

guess i just needed to be patient. i SWEAR the tab for 'open incoming files' wasn't there before, but i tried it an hour or so after my earlier post here and it took me to my c-drive's 'my music' folder-- and there were my downloads. they were definitely not there when i posted the forum this morning, so i guess winmx just takes an hour or so to make its connections (?).

it's still not evident how to manage which folder they go to, but the main thing is that now i can listen to the wealth of stuff available.

it IS too bad about their help site, but other than it's just time to hop back onto the learning curve.

i like this forum site-- i've learned stuff this morning just cruising the other threads.

in arnold's words: i'll pee pack!

no need to slap my wrist-- just did that myself, too.

i didn't read the forum rules until after my first post (thus the wrist slap).

does asking for advice re listening to downloaded winmx files constitute a violation of the last (as i recall) forum rule? the one that says it's wrong to ask for or give advice on what amounts to 'piracy'? is that why no one replied? if so, sorry-- guess that's another wrist slap i owe myself.

if it ain't a violation, please let me know. (i only have two wrists.) not that there won't be enough bumps in the road ahead regarding 'legal' applications, etc.

    Hiya and welcome, mezzerooni

Its a very thin line. It depends on what you download, but it may be best not to say what files they actually are ;)
