Hello,
I was just curious about how to free up more of my systems resources. I have recently added more ram, but i still find that my computer still crawls. I only have 64% of my systems resources free, but I would like to try and get more. What can I do to free up some resources?
Thanks

Hi, You can trim what programs are starting when Windows does for starters. If you have win98, you can go to Start>Run and type msconfig in the box....select the Startup tab at top of the window, here you see the list of programs running at bootup.
Some things can be unchecked....but, we would have to see them to help you, so go here and download this program, run it, it creates a log which you can open up....start a Reply to this thread here, and Copy and Paste the entire contents to it. Experts here can advise you of what you can or should not have running to save resources...it also might show bad software, such as spywares and worms, so you get a double benefit from this.

As Byteman said, you can stop some running programs. As further explanation, regardless of the ram, the resources are controlled by only 1MB of ram. Download the file he suggested and run it, then post the results.

SeeYa

Is the 64% figure one you are seeing immediately after startup, or after you've been on and doing stuff for awhile. It's too low for a startup figure, but perfectly ok if you've been online for awhile

There's not that much in your startups to disable, but I'd recommend not running Cleansweep on startup. Just run it manually before an install.

You can also uncheck loadqm in startups, but you are not likely to see much savings.

Check the resources again and note which is the lower figure, GDI or USER. If it's USER, you may benefit by reducing the number of icons on your desktop.

Also you might want to disable wmencagt.exe according to the info at this site:
