I am having restart problems. Because of this I very rarely restart my computer. I have even turned off automatic updates. For some unknown reason my automatic updates reverts back, and when it goes to restart, I get a black screen with just a curser, nothing else. Please help.

not a lot of information to go by, but first thing i would ask would be is there anything plugged into a usb slot? that would cause a no boot situation, usually it gives a message that says something to the effect of can't find ntldr in the upper right corner of the black screen.
more info would help, type of computer, os and version(vista business, 7 pro, etc), 32 or 64 bit, amount of ram, etc.
