i would like to restore my laptop(Compaq Presario V2000) back to factory settings. my uncle gave me his old LT when he bought a new one. he did not have any recovery CD's and the built in ones had already been created and therefore i can not burn my personal copy of recover cd's from the LT itself. i have recently had a battle of serious viruses, trojans, and etc. my last battle i was receiving help to rid the backdoor rootkit(i think it was a rootkit) Zero.Access. i was instructed to use the combofix app. once it ran and attempted to reboot i had completely lost access to my KYBD and mouse(pad) on 12/12/11. still using the help i was told to run combofix again on the 14th in which a restore point was made along the registry restore. i was told 2days ago to run a registry restore within combofix to try to get the kybd and mouse working. the restore point created is not on the date in which the problem occurred. i was then instructed to do a sys restore before using combofix which was on the 12th. there are several restore points for the month of december as well as 3points before the 12th and one point on the 12th. i have tried to access all of those points but my computer will not let me gain access to the sys restore. i have tried to do the restore in safe mode with no luck. i would just like to start over and do clean sweep of the LT but i dont have any disc. i was wondering if there is a way to do this.

Even if you have the recovery partition or CD, it would be too outdated, and filled with useless manufacturer software.
You could install Windows from a regular Windows CD. You can see the version and the install key on the bottom of the laptop.
After the install's done, get the drivers from manufacturers webpage.
