    Hi,

My laptop was dropped by my 8 year old recently and has been off with the insurers for a replacement MB and HDD. Before I sent it, I made a system image on an external HDD and now am wondering how I can "install" it. The engineers installed Win 8 on the laptop and I absolutely hate 8. I just want my system back as it was before the "drop".

    Thanks :)

    Hi paulc_dj.

Do you have access to Acronis True Image 2016 or similar. If you do I think they have a built in option to clone drive to dissimilar hardware.

The Plus Pack is an add-on module featuring enhancements like the
flexibility to restore files, applications and an operating system
    to dissimilar hardware.

    I hope this helps :)

If the motherboard is an exact replacement you can just boot to your Rescue disk and do the re-image. For a different motherboard you could try the same and hope, and then go with Everway9's excellent suggestion.
