Rewriter Will Not Read Blank Cd's

    :mad: please help! ive been on the phone with dell tech support for over 2 hours and they cant help. ive tried reinstalling the drive, reinstalling all software, nothing works. it will just simply not read any blank cds. does fine with audio cds or cd-rom, just not blank cds to burn things onto. ive tried practically everything! please help

    a little more info might help:
    What O/S (Windows XP? Pro? Home?)
    What make and model Burner are you using? (You may have to pull the drive out and read the lable on the top)
    What software and version number are you using?
    What speed cd's are you trying to use? Make?

    im running xp, the rewriter came with the computer...its a dell...using roxio software but currently no software will read the blank cds..using memorex 48x cd-r's but they have worked in the drive before...

    Have you tried any other software besides the Roxio, like the built in XP one, or perhaps Nero?

    yeah i have...nothing works..the drive itself wont acknowledge that there is a blank cd inserted...

    And you said it used to work on this system? Did you change anything recently?
