Hi, this is my first post on this site and i'm starting out with a bazzar question. i have a sony laptop and have had it for about a year now. i have created and installed alot of software. then one day my CD/RW/DVD would not read a CD that i made with that very CD/RW/DVD. but to make things even stranger i put in another CD that i had created with said CD/RW/DVD and it read it just fine so i put the cd that it could not read earlier to see if it would recognize it, it didn't so i took the cd out and put it into my desktop and it read the cd just fine. if the cd was going bad it seems to me it would stop reading all cd's not just certain ones. i've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the drivers, i got a hold of sony and they couldn't figure out the problem and they can't or won't tell me how to contact the manufacturer, i tried on my own but there seems to be no way to contact them. it's a MATSHITA UJDA720 DVD/CDRW. it has no problem reading DVD's either. if anyone has any suggestions they would be very welcomed because i have alot of backed up files on cds that i can't get to for reinstalling.

thank you in advance
kuzzz

This behavior is ussually due to dust on the lens. Use an appropiate lens cleaner.

I have an older Matsu.... drive that has the same problems when reading dvd movies. Picture is good but sound is messed up. No problems with software discs or music discs. Tried to contact manufacturer....... waste of time. Getting ready to pull it and install new dvd+/- writer.
