If I am using a router, which I believe has a firewall, do I need to use an additional firewall such as the one provided by Windows? Does using an additional firewall offer more protection?

    Thanks for your help.

The router serves as a firewall for traffic from the internet. When information arrives that wasn't requested by any of the PCs internal to your network it is dropped. This performs the same functionality as the windows firewall, but other software firewalls monitor both inbound and outbound traffic.
