I was using Roxio Easy CD Creator to copy a track from a CD to my hard disk. If offered 3 formats - WMA, MP3 and WVA. I recorded the same track using all 3 formats and then copied them onto a CD which I played in my stereo system. They all sounded exactly the same - no noticable difference in quality, and it's a good stereo!

The WMA used 2.2mb of hard disk, the MP3 used 5.4mb and the WAV used 24.1mb. Why is there no difference between formats that use such hugely different amounts of hard disk?
