A few months ago, our printer stopped working.. .unsure why. I bought a new printer (easy fix), HP Deskjet 1050, and went through all of the install, but at the last step, when I connect the USB to my computer (Dell Laptop, Windows XP), it says it cannot finish setup because "RPC Server Unavailable" and on the install screen, it menioned a problem with the Printer Spooling System. I restarted and all that, but to no avail... three hours later, I still need to print docs out... help please!!

Go start, run and type "services.msc"
When that opens scroll down to Remote Procedure Call.
Be careful there is RPC and RPC Locator.
On RPC double click the entry and if the the service is disabled, click the arrow to the right of that box and select manual. Then click apply and OK.
Restart the computer and how is it now.
If that RPC is already on manual or the box is greyed out check
check DCOM and set automatic and Print Spooler and set automatic
