This is the 3rd PC I have built. It has a ASUS M2A-VM HDMI motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ and 2 GB RAM with a 74 GB WD Raptor. I am using a genuine Microsoft basic USB optical mouse. Overall the system runs great.

However, from time to time, the mouse pointer will jump to the upper left hand corner or start to drift slowly in that direction.

Device manager says it is a "HID compliant mouse" using a Microsoft provided driver, version 5.1.2600.0

Windows XP home with all current patches.

hey, i have also had similar problems and i have there is not much in the way of actually fixing this problem, if your mouse is getting old then that could be the case as all mine that started doing it were pretty dam old. try updating the mouse drivers in the devise manager maybe? if that version you have listed above is not the latest.
