Are there any simple safe programs for getting a list of running processes on a computer

I would prefer not to use HJT as it's hard to access just that and Smitfraudfix wants to wipe out the Hosts file and reset the clock to military time

Open a command window (Start, Run, type cmd). In the window type the command tasklist and hit Enter.

I think we have a winner

thanks guys
I do a lot of triage work in a pre hjt forum

this will enable me to see if problems like running multi antivirus or teatimer are interfering with malware cleanup

A variation of the command will show running services: tasklist /svc

As it turns out that advice is very confusing for some since they don't actually have tasklist. Users with Windows XP Home for one since tasklist.exe is provided only with Windows XP Pro and (I assume) Windows 2003 server.

I just tried it on Vista Home Premium and Vista Business, they both have tasklist. So I think Vista Ultimate will have that too.
