I will be working on the computer and everything will be running full speed, then all of a sudden, it just slows down. Programs don't close quickly, they just slowly dissapear from the screen. Anybody have any ideas? I've run the scan disk and defrag, and also spy-bot with negative results. I do a hard re-boot and everything is back to normal..... for a while!!

    What OS do you have?

Go to start>run>type msconfig>enter>startup tab>run down the list and uncheck any unnecessary items. You can click the msconfig link next to my signature for an explanatory list of them.

Do you have Adaware? If not, click the spyware link and download aaw.exe and run it. Unless spy-bot is a spyware removal program also.

Be sure to dump your temps and clear history.

Are you running behind a FW? A router? Do you download porn or warez? Using Kazaa or other P2P? Almost sounds like somebody is trying to connect to your machine. Does this only happen when you are on-line?

No firewall, no warez, no porn.....

I'm on attbi, which is always on-line, I guess. Sometimes I'll be playing some game, and it will just slow down 1/2 way thru the game. Again, I do a hard re-boot, and I'm back up and running!

Hmmm... If yer sitting atop a broadband connection in plain sight, you are almost certainly getting probed and may already be owned. That is if lack of a firewall includes basic NAT benefit of using a router. Are you just plugged directly? One computer, one broadband connection, computer to modem and out to the Internet? If so you have serious problems. This is purely common sense - sitting naked on a fat pipe is like parking your Bentley in the middle of the South Bronx with the doors unlocked and the keys in the boot. Yer just asking for trouble.

Try this so we can see what is running and do it when it's running slow not normal..
    Go to http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/ :

    Download StartupList 1.51

After unzipping the file, run it. You will see a text file displayed. Copy/paste the file directly to a reply. To copy/paste, when the file is open, click Edit>Select All > Edit > Copy and then right click on a reply window here and select "paste".

I pulled up all the things running at startup, and went through the list and deleted the ones that were not necessary, and .... it appears to be fixed!! I've not had a problem for the last couple days, and have evn had my teenagers on the computer with no problems!

    Thank you!:)
