    Hi,
im running a Win98, and im sure i have a virus or spyware on my computer, because it is running so slow, and when i go on the internet, i can only get on it for a limited amount of time, then i have to restart my computer so that i can get on the internet again, because something is stopping me.
Anyway, i can't find out what it is, i have run norton antivirus and spybot and adaware.
So does anyone have a structure on the Win98 OS (a folder/file structure of what it is like when it has been rebuilt) I don't have the time to rebuild it, so i will have to go through each individual folder, and a structure would really help!

Hi, and welcome to the TSG forum :) (y)

    post a hjt log

    HIJACK THIS:

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

    http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
    http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html
    http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy (this has an older version 1.97 - if you can not get to any of the above sites)

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING wait advice from one of the many security experts in this forum.

I currently do not have the skill/competence to advise and poor advice can be far more damaging to your PC with this software, and so I will be unable to add any advice on the log and so will nolonger be replying to your post with regards to the HJT issue, so please have patience and wait for one of the secruity experts to provide further detailed advice

i will however, be notified when you post the log

Follow Etaf's advice and post a HijackThis log.

Let's also cover some other bases.

    1. What speed is the processor and how much RAM is installed?

    2. When was the last time that you deleted everything under:

    *.tmp

    c:\temp\*.*

    c:\windows\temp\*.*

in Start - Find - Files And Folders?

    3. When was the last time that you ran Disk Defragmenter?

    4. When was the last time that you used Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 and Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.04 to get rid of the buildup of spyware and other nasties?

You're obviously getting on-line with another computer. Download HijackThis to that computer, copy it to a floppy disk, then use the floppy disk to install it in your problem computer. Run a scan, save the results to a text file, copy it to the floppy disk, copy it to the computer you're using, then post it here.
