While trying to untangle a browser hijacking, I put my laptop into Safe Mode. I can only see the black screen, and no desktop icons at ALL in safe mode, so it seems kine of useless to me :(

I read on another website that I could put XP into Safe Mode by using msconfig, then click on Safe Mode, which I did.

HELP, now I can't get out of the black (and useless) safe mode screen at ALL :(

You should have a basic task bar with a start button and be able to right click while in safe mode. Or just try to reboot into that "Advanced Options Menu" and select the last known good configuration option. Did you try hitting the windows logo key on your keyboard to get the start menu up while in the safe mode?

No, I had NOTHING but a black screen, safe mode note in each corner, and an arrow for cursor (no blinking arrow). It sorta makes the safe mode worthless for fixing anything :(

BUT, I was able to click and stumble into a screen for RESTORE, so I got myself out of that eternal safe mode, and am at least functional. But I don't know how I will rid myself of the browser hijackers if I can't operate in safe mode :(

Just ask a senior member for that "hijack this log" link and then post your results and some one will help you.
