Our motherboard is kind of old (PII) so to update it we bought a SATA PCI card. Last week our DVD drive went bad so we went out to look for a new one. We found a nice Samsung SATA with lightscribe that was only 10.00 more than a standard DVD so we bought it. Here's our question. The SATA PCI card has two SATA ports on it (Maxtor model SATA/150) and we wanted to test the second port but we could only get the first port to work. My guess is that the second port doesn't turn on until something is already plugged into the first port? Does this sound right? However, if the second port is bad, isn't there a way to daisychain SATA like they do with USB? I saw no place to plug anything into on the hard drive, other than its power port and input SATA port. BTW, we're using XP Pro :)

No... you can't daisy chain SATA. Does your controller show any kind of pre-Windows bios as your system starts? Usually like a ctrl-a to enter setup as it's detecting the drives. I'd check to see if the other port is disabled, and/or make sure that your SATA card is compatible with that SATA lightscribe.

According to the manual it says to press F2, but pressing that doesn't seem to do anything :( We've tried pressing it all all different times, but it just keeps scanning and then once it finds the hard drive it starts win xp :(

Ok... silly question.... are you using a usb or usb/wireless keyboard on a usb card (not on motherboard)? Wondering if you have a keyboard before Windows finds it. Can you get into Safe Mode by pressing F8?
