    Hello,

I just installed 2 new SATA 150 drives (Maxtor Diamond Max 9) in
a Raid 0 configuration. My question is about the temp that they run
at. It seems the drives are running at 42 degrees celsius, a little
hotter that my old ATA/133 drives. Is this normal? I have been told in
the past that SATA drives run hotter, but it did not come from a
    reliable source.

    Thank you

That looks normal-ish, depends what size they are (bigger means hotter).
SATAs don't generally run any hotter than PATAs although your old ATA drives may have had slower spin speeds or different capacity?

You can probably bring them down into the mid-to-high 30 degree range if they were housed in a side-loaded bay with a 120mm fan next to them (that's if they're not already being cooled).

You can use the SMART tab of Speedfan:

.... to get an online comparison of your drive(s) (if it's known to their database) and also the manufacturer (Maxtor) should have temperature guidelines and limits available at their website.
