My uncles is wanting to replace the IDE drive he kept in his new tower i built for him....

Ive told him that he would be better getting 2 x 250Gb SATAII drives 300Mbps in RAID ARRAY than getting 1 x 500Gb SATAII 300Mbps drive as the loading times will be reduced by half again as the data is write/read to both drives instead of just one...

    is this right?

he currently has 1 80Gb x IDE 100Mbps drive which shares the DVD drive IDE controller.

so if he had TWO 250Gb SATAII drive @ 300Mbps he would get 600Mbps throughput in RAID ARRAY wouldnt he?

He was toying with idea of RAPTOR drives but too expensive for him.. I said two SATAII 300 drives in RAID ARRAY would be faster than one single RAPTOR... yes? no?

any advice on all this would be great , and how do i know if his mobo supports SATAII 300 ?
also I have a SATA300 7200RPM drive just installed in my laptop.. how do i know its running on SATA300 ? it does have a jumper on the drive
the drive is noisy and im thinking of sending back for a 5400rpm SATA300...

    thanks
