    What is the exact board?

SATA2 HDDs work on SATA, they just run at the 150 instead of 300.
Same story for SATA on a SATA2.

What else to look for in a hard drive?
A higher RPM is good, 8-16MB cache, and NCQ is nice.

    What motherboard is it exactly?

You can either post a link to the board or give us the model number.
