My computer won't allow me to do a scan of my disk. It keeps trying and re-trying for hours now. It says that some other program is trying to access the disk. I have shut down all the startups in the lower right hand corner of the windows screen. I have rebooted numerous times. Same result. I am running Windows 98. I have a Gateway 350MHz Pentium II computer with 256 MB Ram and a 10GB IDE Type 47 disk drive. Someone please help me out!

Standard thing to happen when you have other programs running in the backround. Try again after shutting down all programs such as Antivirus, Screen Savers, etc... Go to ctrl+alt+del and End Task everything except Explorer and Systray. If that does not work, reboot into Safe Mode and try it again.
