Im not sure what is wrong with my computer. I suspect a scratched harddrive. It randomly freezes and is very slow at times. I suspected spyware, viruses etc.. (although my cpu is for college and not used for anything else) so i tried everything with no results.
Then my freezing turned into a driver termination that led to me not being able to access my windows os. I deleted windows and completly reinstalled it. starting from scratch. I have the same problem now.
What could be causing this..I want to have a general idea because i would hate to turn it in to Bestbuy for 2-3 weeks when i can fix it here at my dorm.

    Thanks!

If you have reloaded Windows clean and the problem returned immediately, I suspect this is a definite hardware problem; but, it may or may not be the hard disk.

If memtest shows bad memory, it is bad; however, memory testing utilities often give bad memory a clean bill. The best test of memory is to replace it with known-good memory. If you don't have any to substitute, look and see if you have two chips instead of one. If you do, try removing one and then swap for the other. If the problem persists, you will have to check other items.

Unless you have a shop with lots of spare parts, your warranty service is probably the only viable alternative.
