So, today I tried installing ubuntu since I was bored and wanted to try it out. A lot of my friends like it and use it, so I thought why not. Anyways, I was going to install it on an SDD that I never used, was given as a gift. Well, I had a lot of problems. While trying to install, I did something to my main SSD which holds Windows 8.1. Now, it only shows that the SSD holds 58.5 gigs on it when it actually has 240gigs on it! I don't know what to do but when I try to boot on it, it doesn't have an operating system! Any way to fix this?

your post does not contain enough information to enable me to assist you

which Ubuntu eg 14.04 were you trying to install - because you were bored, and were were you installing it from a DVD or a USB

Seen now it was Ubuntu 14 - were you installing the 64 bit version or the 32 bit

Did you change the UEFI firmware - BIOS to legacy mode= as if you did that is why windows will not now boot

I did something to my main SSD which holds windows 8.1
- any further clues - any chance you installed to that in error

Did the Ubuntu install see the windows 8.1 install

does the Ubuntu boot

and the 1000$ question is - did you ensure you had a system image and a means of restoring that image of windows 8.1, as every guide written on Ubuntu install as dual boot starts of by advising that all existing data is backed up

For example
Before you start it might be worth reading the latest review of Ubuntu 14.04 to make sure dual booting with Windows 8.1 is something you want to do.

1. Back up Windows
