scroll bar on touch pad stopped working

    My scroll bar on my touchpad stopped working. I have an HP laptop.

    Is the touchpad a SYNAPTICS or ALPS or some other brand?

    What version of Windows are you using?

    What model name and model number is your HP laptop?

    Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) w Service Pack 1
    15.4" Diagonal WXGA High Def Brightview Widescreen Display
    802 11b/g WLAN

    C Cell Liithium Ion Battery

    Recheck the model number because it's not a G50-1189R. The closest that I come to that is G50-118NR - which has the same hardware specs that you posted. If you can't confirm the model number, there should be a part number on the sticker.

    HP/Compaq laptops usually have a Synaptics touchpad, so I'm assuming that yours does too. This is the current driver for it.

    Go into Control Panel - Device Manager and look at the list and see if Synaptics pointing device is listed.
