To determine if it is the external drive (what seems to be the likely problem) or the computer, have you tried the external drive in a different computer?
Another option is to try and take the hard drive out of the case and connect it directly to an IDE controller.
woooo, thats really advance, Im not that computerly inclined, and no I havnt tried it on another comp, but if it did work on that comp, how would i fix mine so it works?
Guess let's try one thing at a time. It's kind of a long-shot that it will work on another computer. Usually this type of error indicates either failed electronics in the case or a failing hard drive.
There's no reason that the hard disk in an external case will last any less time than an internal one. I will admit that I've had several flaky external cases lately, but at $20/ea, I guess that's to be expected.
But i just bought another xternal hd yesterday and that one wont boot either. It has to be somthing other then the new hd. I know the other one is bad because i cant put files on it, only take files off, and thats ONLY if i can get it to boot, which i cant do for the life of me today.
It has somthing to do with my comp or somthing, or the usb controller.
I used to be able to get the old one to boot buy uninstalling the usb 2.0 software that came with the controller, but now that wont even work.
You keep posting important information piecemeal. Would it be possible to get all relevant information regarding the problem and what else has been done to troubleshoot it. I would have had no idea you got another hard drive yesterday and had the same problem. You didn't mention that in your earlier post today.
windows either doesnt recognize the drive or there is a problem during installation.
