hi I use a shared computer with ie 7.0 and recently I have noticed that everytime I open the search option on the explorer bar, web pages keep popping open faster than I can close them and then it freezes the comp. It only does this when I try to use the search option, could this be a virus or something? any help would be greatly appreciated.
-thanks

I think from what I am reading that when you open a webpage you get many pages opening which freezes up your computer?? Is that correct??

If so try a pop up stopper.... such as this one

http://www.panicware.com/product_dpps.html

download it & use it when going surfing on websites & it will stop the other pages from loading up using all your resources/memory.

Hope this will help you

:) Savvy

ps... the webpage you have on the search window has advertisers using other windows that load when it opens.
This will stop them.

Internet Explorer doesn't have a version 7.0. Are you using AOL 7.0?

Sure you don't mean IE6?

Yes there is something going round which "infects" the search bar. See HKEd's post here:

http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57588&highlight=sp.dll

To use msconfig, go to start and run: msconfig

Click on the "startup" tab. Look for a reference to sp.dll and uncheck it. Then do a Find Files search for sp.dll and rename or delete it.
