I've been reading about other search.exe problems but I can't find the similar offenders in my list from HijackThis. I would appreciate someone giving me some hints. I've run SpyBot and AdAware and deleted some items from HijackThis list but I can't get rid of the search.exe passthrough.

Hi ydnar27, Welcome to TSG.

First, make sure you download the latest version of HJT (1.97.7):

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Then close your browser and check the following entries in HJT, click fix and REBOOT.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://searchexe.com/passthrough/in...cfm?division=91

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

....not sure about these entries. Do you know what they are? If you want, you can have HJT fix them too. If they're legit, you can have HJT restore them:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BHOUBIOR] C:\WINDOWS\BHOUBIOR.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BHOUELRYC] C:\WINDOWS\BHOUELRYC.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [COOL PLAY] C:\PROGRA~1\ONEPLA~1\Seek Bleh.exe

....these should go:

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://ad.searchsquire.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://search.searchsquire.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://update.searchsquire.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.searchsquire.com

See if this helps.

:)
