If I click on Start and type a file name in the search box above the Windows icon I immediately get a response with possible files shown. If I go Start and click on Search on the right hand side the window opens but if I type in a file name in the search box nothing happens. There is no response at all. Has anybody got any ideas? I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks

The first search box is for searching "everywhere." The second is for email (I assume only for Microsoft email clients), Documents, Music, Pictures. and Other (don't know what this means). What is selected in the "Show only" bar?
Hi
If I hold the Windows button and click 'f' it merely opens the Search window. 'All' is highlighted in 'Show Only'. No matter what I select there is still no response to any file, folder, picture etc I enter in the search window.
Any other ideas. Maybe Windows Repair or sfc /scannow?
Your help is much appreciated

I ran sfc /scannow and the report said there were corrupted files but Windows was unable to repair them all. Is it true Vista does not come with a Windows Repair option but only a Startup Repair? It's not really a big issue I was just wondering if anyone had come across anything like that before. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.
