Hello everyone. A few days ago my computer started redirecting all of my searches. I use the computer primarily to go to websites that I would consider trusted, so I'm not sure where it came from.

I ran AVG, SpyBot, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Malwarebytes the other day with no real success. I ended up uninstalling FireFox and that seemed to fix the problem, but then tonight it started again. I Norton Power Eraser and TDSSKiller tonight. Power Eraser found a funny looking .dll so I removed that. No success.

I'm not very good at this, so I'll be trying to follow the instructions as best I can. Here are the requested logs from the sticky topic. This is my second attempt at posting, as the first one timed out and when it forwarded me to try again, it was a blank page.

***EDIT***

I know I probably shouldn't have done this, but I ended up uninstalling FireFox. I found that these redirects were only happening in FireFox, and in IE9 it didn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Here's the strange thing. If I would go into FireFox and do a search it would work just fine.

So, if I searched for:
USDA EPP which is the place I check my pay stubs from work, I could click on the link and it would go to it just fine
LiPo battery fully charged voltage and clicked on a link, it would take me right to the page

Pretty much anything I searched for worked fine.

Here's the kicker. As SOON as I entered the term "iPad" into the search, it instantly went to the redirects. So, I could be searching just fine, then do a search for iPad Mini review, and I would get the redirects. Once I got them, they would kick in for other searches as well.

For instance, that LiPo battery search that worked fine before?? After doing a search for iPad the LiPo battery search would take me to a redirect from the link instead of the site I was trying to go to.

This is really strange to me, but when Norton Power Eraser found that .dll earlier, it was in some folders named "Apple Apps" and "Apple" as it's folder.

It then dawned on me that the other day when this started, I was searching for information about the iPad Mini.

Is it possible that somehow something was running that when I put iPad in the search terms, it kind of "woke it up?"

Like I said, I uninstalled FireFox because I don't really need it anyways. I have been searching for a while now using IE9 and haven't had any issues.

Still hoping to find some information out about this, because I don't really think that uninstalling FireFox got rid of the problem.

Thanks again.

Well, I believe that I've gotten it sorted out.

I think that the .dll was the virus, as after it was removed I haven't had any trouble with IE9.

I then found a funny extension in Chrome called Default Extension 1. When I deleted it, Chrome no longer had the redirects. However, whenever I would close Chrome and then start it again, the extension would come back. To get rid of it, I had to "Delete this User" from Chrome, and then it didn't come back. I haven't had the issue in Chrome again.

I did some looking about that Default Extension, and it sounds to me like the virus is the .dll file and it messes with IE, but it also installs extensions into both Chrome and Firefox to make them suffer from the redirects, too. So, when I removed the virus .dll file, I still had issues with the other browsers because the virus scans weren't removing extensions.
