My internet browser keeps defaulting to SearchV when I reboot. This happens after I use Lavasoft & HijackThis .. they fix the problem until I reboot. Can someone help out? The logs are listed below. The first is after I used Lavasoft & HiJackThis. The second is after I rebooted my system.

you are not posting a full hijackthis log, there must be missing entries that are putting the searchv entries back

You have running processes that should have start up entries but aren't showing

open hijackthis/config /misc tools i/gnore list, if there are any there then press delete all & rescan & post a new log.

There is nothing in the ignore section of HijackThis. I ran another log just in case I had missed copying something

I ran the shredder program and it said that it had found four items and fixed them. But I rebooted and searchv is still there.

We've seen this happen here a few times lately.

The following method has worked before:

    Run Cwshredder again.

Without restarting run HJT again and put a check by these. Close all browser windows and "Fix Checked"

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.searchv.com/

    Restart now.

I ran Shredder (had to close IE before doing that), then ran HJT and there were no entries for searchv (see below for log file). This is what shredder had to say:

    - 3 registry values were killed
    - Hostsfile was OK
    - Bootconf.exe was not present
    - Trusted Zone was OK
    - User stylesheet was OK
    - Oemsyspnp.inf was not present
    - Svchost32.exe was not present
    - Msspi.dll Winsock hook was not present
    - Msinfo.exe was not present
    - Winshow.dll BHO was not present
    - MadFinder BHO was not present
    - Ctfmon32.exe was not present

    HJT log file:

Sorry, I got called away. Yes, I've restarted the computer, and just to be on the safe side, I also shut it down completely and then started it up again. As soon as I do that, searchv is back.

    Maybe a StartupList will help.

    Please do this:

Open HJT and click om "Config" in the lower right corner. Next click on "Misc tools". Put a check in both "list all minor sections (full)" and "List empty sections" and click "Generate Startup List"

    Copy and paste it here.

I must admit that I am stumped.

I have PMed someone to look at his. It will probably be tomorrow before he looks in here.

Meanwhile I am going to do some further research to see what I can find.

    Hi boxergal,

    Can you try this please.
Go to Start > Run > type regedit enter.
    Navigate to :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Right click on that key and select export. Save it somewhere you will find it later if needed.
Now see if there is a sys.reg entry in the right hand pane, click on it and delete it if so.

    Now navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603
and do the same thing for winshow.dll

Run HijackThis again. Put a check beside the following, close all other windows and select fix checked.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.searchv.com/

    Reboot:
Search hidden and system files for a sys.reg file. Delete it if found. You may need to open Windows Explorer and go to tools > folder options > view tab > and put a check in *show hidden files and folders* and uncheck *hide protected OS files*.
Do the same for winshow.dll.. IF found in winshow folder, you can delete the entire folder.

    Please keep us posted.

Best safety measure here may be to create a restore point first. If/when we get this fixed and everything is well, we will need to clear all restore points off your machine.
