So I recently wanted to try use two monitors. The one I'm using at the moment, DVI to DVI works fine if it is plugged in alone. If the other one is plugged in while its loading it up shows the windows icon then goes to a gray screen. If it is turned on and I plug in the cable it shows up as no signal, the screen is vga to hdmi. Any help is appreciated!

You can rule out the other ports, cables, adapters, by simply testing using only that monitor. If it also works when it's the only monitor connected, then it's not a port/cable/monitor issue. Which would lead me to believe the hardware can't support multiple monitors.

What is the brand/model information of the PC and/or what are the hardware specs?

You are configuring the display within Windows correct? > https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976064

Ok, I'm not the best with pc's but I will try, The vga to hdmi monitor doesnt work alone. the other one does. About hardware I'm not to sure. Geforce GTX 720 TI graphics card. Processor is a intel i5-2310 cpu. Its got 8gb of ram and its a 64 bit system running windows 10. When I go to look at the monitors it doesn't even detect a second.

If the monitor using the adapter doesn't work alone, then that is the problem.

I've seen DVI > HDMI adapters, and they work because both signals are digital. VGA is analog, so unless you are using an active converter, a simple gender changer adapter isn't going to work. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Converter-Support-Adapter-SY-ADA31025/dp/B006FILNV6
Would this be alright? http://www.dx.com/p/d51-1080p-hdmi-...jNYkD1QAKM5Q-EcrivXYpXS4AUZRXjx3zRRoCuRHw_wcB

Maybe.

I don't see a 720 Ti listed on the nVidia site. But the 720 has three outputs:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-720/specifications

What port are you using on the video card to what kind of port on the monitor?

For example: VGA port out to HDMI in. In which case you need a VGA to HDMI adapter (the direct here matters).
the graphics card is a NVIDIA GEFORCE 720 TI. The back of the screen only has vgi. On the graphics card, the back is only a vgi and a hdmi slot. So I need vga-vga and then a adapter turning it into a hdmi for the graphics card?

I assume that is supposed to read "DVI and a HDMI" slot as you stated the DVI output working.

In any case, you need an HDMI to VGA adapter. The one you've listed may work, but I've not used any to make any recommendations.
