I DOWNLOADED SECOND LIFE, AND EVERYTIME I TRY TO RUN IN IT, IT COMES UP WITH CORRUPT LOG. NOW I HAVE LOOKED AROUND AND THE COMMON PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE GRAPHICS RELATED. NOW I THOUGHT VISTA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MOST ADVANCED PLATFORM? HOWEVER, MY FRIEND HAS SECOND LIFE, AND VISTA AND HE HASN'T HAD THE PROBLEMS AT ALL. IS IT THAT MY LAPTOP IS NOT GAMES-READY!

I ATTEMPTED TO UPDATE THE GRAPHICS DRIVER (CURRENTLY ATI RADEON 1100 / 32-BIT), BUT MY SYSTEM DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE UPDATE - I LOADED IT 3 TIMES AND THE GRAPHICS DRIVER JUTS STAYS THE SAME!

SOMETIMES I WONDER IF VISTA CORRUPTIONS ARE JUST CUNNING PLOYS TO SELL MORE REPAIR SOFTWARE WITH AFFILIATED COMPANIES...FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST!

    THANKS GUYS FOR ANY HELP...

    That's okay ;)

The thing is with Vista, is that many believe its not a great Gaming platform for the PC. DirectX 10 is not that great for many of the games, as it increases the frame rate, so many developers and gamers are sticking with XP.

However, for your problem, as this isn't an intense gaming thing like First Person Shooter, least from what I can gather, I'm looking at the card:

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_14603_14612^14613,00.html

It says it should be okay for Vista, but it appears to be an integrated motherboard chipset, so that may be a slight problem. You say your friend plays it okay, can you find out what card he has installed?

Did you get the drivers from here:

    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/integrated-vista32

the release notes say it should be for your chipset:

yes you are absolutely right..i was looking just as your email response arrived! I have been looking and its definately a problem with the integrated mother board. i tried downloading a different version of ATI, but it says now that their is an incompatiblity issue with the VGA hardware! I will try the things you suggested and get back to you.

thanks v. much for your effort.

OK..i have successfully sorted out any administrative privileges. the issue is a conflict.

When i try to load the ATI it says

"try to setup your display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup"

    ...Vista well and truly sucks..

    thanks

no none of the things anyone is suggeting is working. these have been tried a hundred times, in every configuration possible. You think it - it has been done already. SEcond life keeps crashing. Vista is just terrible andh I have done nothing for the past 2 months but try to repair incomaptible elementsa and software. I mean the idea that word for windowa does not run on windows own platform is ludricuous!!!! Its a big joke, and I am resolved to belive that my system - that is supposed to be an advanced software platform is only ever going to able to use word pad, can't play a simple graphics game -

    vista die die die!

    its doesnt....

compatibilty is not the issue - its a conflict - i have tried this many time. i don't knwo what info i can give you so anyone can understand wha is going on.

tried compatiblity to mode, and it was straightforward. I used a ATI XP version and clicked on the mode. it loaded - i rebooted. tried Second life...and it crashed again, as per usual....

i have all administartive privilges so that is not the issue.

thanks for you atttention. Depsigte my absolute frustration, I am still vey grateful

yes.....as before - the system suggests to use a basic VGA interface. Yet I can;t find one on the system. I am guessing that this means there is a conflict with the ATI that is already installed, and Vista won't allow the update of ATI. By allowing VGA, it will not conflict with the ATI driver?

    thanks

You might have an onboard video card enable, try disable it at the bios. Before you do that, uninstall all the video drivers.

Don't worry it won't affect the system, only the video drivers.
