Secruty problems with External Hard Drive folders and files

    Hi, I have a few external hard drives that I used on my old computer and now that I am using my new laptop I randomly get issues with not being able to open folders due to security issues. I have spent the past hour getting Windows (10) to let me open a folder that it said I didn't have access to. I thought I finally got it to work, but when I opened the folder, it still won't let me open any of the files in the folder.

    It says I must have read permission to access the file, and I can't get anywhere going through the security tabs to fix it. HELP!!!! TIA

    I would help if you were to provide what the OLD Windows version was?

    What was the user account name and password on the OLD machine compared to what is on the new machine?

    Have you tried taking ownership of these folders and files on the new machine?
