I keep having incessant various "Windows Security Center Alert" pop-ups. First, one keeps saying that I have no Anti-Virus program installed (I have McAfee), another keeps offering a free download of "Windows Protection System" or the installer for it. Also another pop-up saying it is a Security Center Alertkeeps saying that I am infected with Win32.Kbot.al, Trojan.win32.Agent.dcc, or Virus.win32.Hala.a and wants me to "enable protection". On the bottom right icon program bar I keep getting "Danger" alerts from the Windows security shield icon, and also get a pop-up saying the Google installer has met difficulty and wants me to send an error report or not. All these pop-ups keep occuring every minute or so, whether I am on-line or not. I have run 2 virus scans, and an Ad-Aware scan, and neither has helped, and my System Restore refuses to work. What can I do to stop this?

My OS is XP Professional.

I am having the same problem that MzTinka has in the "Pop Ups, diverts, virus advertisings...HJT log" thread. I have downloaded ATF Cleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-malware like suggested in other threads. the ATF Cleaner fixed some of the issues, but I cannot get the Malwarebytes to run (I have McAfee, but I cannot figure out how to temporarily disable it to see if it is blocking the program). Here is my HJT log:

I have downloaded Combofix & SP2, dropped it in, and it refuses to open.

I've downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and it refuses to open. My anti-virus has been disabled, so I know this is not the cause.:(

About every minute or two the pop-ups from the malware keep coming on. This is the 4th day and nothing I try seems to work.

Help!!!

It has now progressed to where the malware is downloading "protection" programs onto the computer and is blocking the Add/Delete function to uninstall them.

Delete any existing version of ComboFix you have sitting on your desktop
Please read and follow all these instructions very carefully

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

rename combofix as you download it to bilgerat.exe

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop and run from the desktop and not any other folder on your computer**
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection and any script blocking components of them or your firewall before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results" or stop combofix running at all
  • Click on THIS LINK to see instructions on how to temporarily disable many security programs while running combofix. The list does not cover every program. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re enable the protection again after combofix has finished
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Close any open browsers and any other programs you might have running
Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
If you are using windows XP It might display a pop up saying that "Recovery console is not installed, do you want to install?"
Please select yes & let it download the files it needs to do this
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell us when you reply. Read HERE why we disable autoruns

Please do not install any new programs or update anything unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem.

Last night before you replied I downloaded and ran Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) - Setup Self-Extracting Cabinet, and since then all the pop-ups and malware seem to be gone, but I am going to proceed with your recomendations, then reply as requested.

as you see Combofix got rid of it all
Microsoft malicious software tool doesn't as yet target the TDSS rootkits that were your problem

*Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and the other tools it downloaded to remove the malware*
* Click START then RUN
* Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /U, it needs to be there.

This will also purge the restore folder and clear any malware that has been put in there. Now Empty Recycle bin on desktop Then reboot.

go here http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?page=3 for info on how to tighten your security settings and how to help prevent future attacks.

and scan here http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ for out of date & vulnerable common applications on your computer and update whatever it suggests

Then pay an urgent visit to windows update & make sure you are fully updated, that will help to plug the security holes that let these pests on in the first place
